Happy Thanksgiving people,

Where ever you are, I hope it’s bearable. There isn’t a Backyart event until December, so I read the chapter in different locations around Queens and put it on youtube. So watch me battle the elements, and my diction as I read by clicking on the links below.

Belated Apocalypse Chapter 5: Mother’s Day @ BackYart!

Mikey and Gerald have conflicting opinions on their new cocaine selling location on a stoop in Elmhurst, Queens. Mikey feels exposed, as Gerald finds joy in pushing rich kids around.

On their chosen day off, Sundays, Gerald secretly goes fishing, which he learned from the only male presence in his life he’s ever respected, a drunk N.B.A executive assigned to him from the big brothers program back in high school.

Dropping off a mother’s day card for Aunt, Mikey visits the old record shop and finds his replacement, his cousin Franky, in the middle of a homo sexual act with a co worker. Under the guise of intolerance, he beats Franky to keep him safe.

Belated Apocalypse loves their mothers.

Mother’s Day: The duo has been relocated to Elmhurst, Queens! In which Gerald goes fishing, and Mikey finds some “sexual goings on” in their old place of employment!

Gerald believes he hears sobs in the night. Mikey notices he is beginning to think like the authors he reads. Silently observing people, spying on old memories. Uncle informs the duo that they will be promoted to a new location, somewhere in Queens. Mikey finally visits Mirriam and walks in on the woman that raised in him, in her most vulnerable state.

This Saturday, I will be reading chapter 3 of my novel Belated Apocalypse titled St.Patrick’s Day: In which we gain some of Leah’s (Mikey’s mother) perspective. Also, Mikey and Gerald convince Uncle to take them to a pub to drink like men, where they run into some Irish immigrants.

This edition of Backyart will feature Backyart’s First Annual Film Frenzy!! Backyart and The Attic Studio in Dublin have teamed up to create a unique film festival experience. Filmmakers from Dublin and New York City have created films around one central topic and object. Next Saturday we will see what they have come up with!

Hello all you people!

Saturday, February 28^th I will be reading the second chapter of Belated Apocalypse titled “Valentine’s Day” at Backyart. In which we visit Mikey’s matters of the heart, past and present. The chapter culminates with an incident in front of the movie theater pictured above.

Previously on Belated Apocalypse…

Awaiting his “uncle” to drive him back home to Ridgewood, a border neighborhood between Brooklyn and Queens, Mikey waits for a nuclear attack on New York City during a New Year’s Eve celebration. Mikey is under the belief the end of the world will happen on a holiday. When it doesn’t happen, he begins to ponder his life. We meet his sister Marcy, who has a history of stabbing men. He remembers his godmother, now crippled by a stroke at a live in hospital. We learn Mikey works for his Aunt with his best friend Gerald, selling weed bags in the back of a record store, one of a vast network of locations she owns. When Uncle finally drives him home, they are diverted to an after hours club, where Mikey speaks to, then kisses an older woman.

This book is the novel which is written by the character “Michael” in my play Chapter One
